So Far Behind!!

I have been wanting to do some catching up posts all week but haven't found the time. Labor Day weekend we went camping with Tom's family and so I've been playing catch up on the house and my church calling. Will post on the reunion soon hopefully!!

For those who don't know, I'm the primary music leader in our ward. I absolutely love it, but it's a lot of work and is completely stressing me out right now! Little did I know when I accepted the calling that the Children's Sacrament Meeting Program would be at the end of October. This can cause a person some serious stress when they've never, ever done anything like this before!

Really, it's not too bad, although I stress because they still struggle on quite a few songs and we have such a small primary. So small that we combine junior and senior primary together. I am taking suggestions!!!

So, this is a big part of the reason why I haven't had a chance to do some posting, my time is consumed with primary stuff and of course, my family!!!

Our music leader was gone last week and there we NO one to help in the second hour. My friend plays the piano and she talked me into leading. The worst part is I can only keep the beat for 1/2 the song. Pretty much I suck at all things leading. I feel for you, but I know you do a great job!

I'm nervous that our kids aren't going to know the songs too. I hope we can have a crash course this month and they can remember them.

I'm the music leader in my ward. I love it too. I can't believe they put you in right before the program. What were they thinking? That has got to be so rough. I've had all year to teach the songs to my kids. (I actually lead with another lady in my ward) My ward made CD's with all the songs on them and gave one to each child's family. They can listen to the music at home and it helps reinforce it. I think you can find it all on the LDS website. I think that helps. Also tons of games. Like hot and cold finding a note or something else. That helps with repetition. Also another fun thing that we do is sing loud/ sing soft, and hum/sing. It helps them learn all the words so they can hum, and then pick up the right word when they have to sing again, and sing loud or soft, same kind of thing. We also (which works really well) play celestial singing. I have a little poster with a Sun on the top moon in the middle and star at the bottom. The song can be on a star or a note or something that you can move. The kids have to sing the song well enough to get the "star" up to the top of the sun. I make them sing it over and over until they get the star to the top of the chart. They get motivated by that. Also, I'll have someone go out into the hall and walk down a ways and we sing loud enough for them to hear. That works well too. Hope these help. I know how stressing it can be to not feel prepared. I got called last year about May and the previous music leader hadn't taught any of the program songs. I had to teach them all the songs by the middle of September. It was pretty intensive. Good luck. If you run into any other fun ideas let me know. I'll let you know if I find something great too.
